FAQs

• What is your rate?

My corporate rate is £500/day, and my creative writing rate is flexible and dependent on the scope. These rates are based on a few factors, some out of my control and some dependent on availability, scope, and client priorities.

For jobs requiring multiple days, or ongoing services, the time and energy usually required to seek new opportunities can be re-directed into those projects.

These efficiencies are passed on to the client in the form or reduced rates.

• How many hours of work are required?

A good rule of thumb is 750 - 1000 words per hour, which includes two rounds of revisions, and proofing. Thus, a 3,000 word story would take about 3 - 4 hours of billable time.

The first draft would take about 65% if the time to create, and the remaining time dedicated to amendments and proofing.

If extensive research is required prior to writing, this would be estimated for prior to commencement of the work.

• What is the turn around time for a project?

While most articles and short stories can be drafted in a day, my preference is to “sleep on it.”

If it reads as smoothly the following day as I thought it did the previous evening, great.

Oftentimes, however, in the cold morning light, new opportunities to tweak and improve present them selves. So, hours worked and turnaround times are not the same.

• How do I review and request changes?

Microsoft word track changes is one way, a video call is another.

If there are specifics, detailing them in written form is preferred.

If it’s a “feel” or an “attitude,” that needs to be addressed, then video calls are always recommended.
